Oh friends, there is so much to be thankful for that it is hard to focus on a list! It’s true, research shows that when we think good thoughts we feel better and when we feel better good things happen! Yes, it seems so simple but it is true. There is much writing and research about this theory – positive thoughts, practicing gratitude etc. Our first day back to work we had a speaker about the subject, she was great. MK Mueller was her name and I liked her. She has a practice of daily saying, writing, texting, posting three gratitude's. She suggests that we all create a habit with our kids or families of sharing three gratitude’s each day, maybe when you hop in the car to head to school or at dinner or bedtime. I like it. The caveat is that you can’t repeat – ever! This prevents the inevitable “I am thankful for this beautiful day.” Each gratitude must be unique and there is no repeating the same one each day. I like it!
Today, I am grateful for many things!
1. Today is the last day of two a day football practice – I am grateful that I was forced to get up and get ready for work early the last two days because each morning has been pleasant! I am also grateful that it is the last day of practice because a mandatory 5:30 wake up time isn’t really that awesome!
2. I am grateful for my new job. I think it will be great. I have enjoyed visiting my three schools and meeting the staff at each location. I am eager to meet the kids.
3. I am grateful for the respite from hot weather that we have been having. The last few days of 80* weather have been wonderful. I wore a jacket!
4. I am grateful for my kayak and the activity that it brings me. It is a new way to interact with both nature and my friends! It is also something I enjoy alone.
5. I am grateful for my husband who despite my blasé’ attitude does not give up and in fact remains steady and positive. Our 25th wedding anniversary is coming up and both of us are interested in working harder on our relationship. I’m happy with that. Changing my own attitude will no doubt make a big difference.
6. I am grateful for my healthy life. I feel blessed to be strong and healthy and motivated to remain this way. Aging without motion seems harder and more painful than aging with constant motion. Get out there and get moving my friends!
