If you haven’t been hanging out with me lately you may not have heard me complain that it hurts… right where my leg connects with my buttocks! It just aches; sitting, standing or wogging – sometimes more sometimes less. I was randomly perusing the Runner’s World website tonight looking at some ways to use my foam roller for muscle relaxation and happened across one entitled, “Periformis”. What the heck is a periformis?!?!?! SOOO crazy, watched the video and started reading and yup, that’s the deal. My periformis is overused! Apparently running or walking on uneven surfaces really aggravates it. Also, my abductors are stronger than my adductors which aggravates the situation. Actually, who knows which is which, I always forget so it could actually be the other way around! It is nice to figure it out, now to make it go away! Of course, the cure is to rest but I’m doing the Wakarusa Off Road September 8th so I’m trying every other treatment! The other suggestions involve some stretching, strengthening and treatment with ice, heat and some n-saids. I have only half heartedly been using all of these things but now I will really be focusing on it. Yay! A bedtime epiphany! I’m off to rub some n-said gel on my buttock/leg connector!! G’night!
