A whirlwind week…

has been full of excitement and fun.  My friend, it feels like it has been a combination of fast and slow since last we have spoken.  I have sooo many things to share with you it is hard for me to choose where to start!  So.. it will be a randomness note today with further information coming soon!

A few things to share…

Marek received a purple ribbon and special award on his Digitally Manipulated photo he titled Jake’s Alley!  Neat, it will go to state fair.

He also received two purples in arts and crafts, one on his fused glass item and one on his logo design.  I’m proud of him, his art is fairly unique to him – I guess most art is unique to the creator but he is my son so I think he’s pretty cool!  He received a purple and reserve champion ribbon on his Geology Display box of 60 specimens.  This is him during consultation judging.

This will also go to the state fair!  Overall, I love the 4H experience for him and for me.  Marek has had the opportunity to make friends from all over the county and the state during the last several years.  He has travelled all over Kansas for Geology and has gone to 4H camp twice.  He has participated in a variety of activities that without 4H he may never have done.  It will continue to challenge him and to enrich his life.  There are things that I love about my past and present 4H experience…

When I was a kid in 4H I loved making friends, doing new things and learning new things – it was an adventure.  As an adult looking back, I am thankful for the opportunities to experience so many different things.  I learned to sew, cook, refinish furniture, count change, give a speech, organize events and maybe most importantly to explore and investigate the things that interest me.  I went to camp with friends during the hottest summer ever!  I went on an exchange trip to Minnesota and hosted a 4H’er from Minnesota at my house.  I met a delegation of Japanese business people and showed them around Northeast Kansas.  I was on radio and TV and I had a great time.  I also developed relationships with peers and adults that have lasted a lifetime.

I STILL love 4H because of the opportunities that Marek has and the opportunities that I have.  These are great kids and families and it is such a great experience to get to know them.  I have friends that I might otherwise never have known.  They broaden my life experience and put a smile on my face regularly!  It is good to have the opportunity to enrich my life and Marek’s life is rare.

Here are some more pics of the 4H experience this season..

They are fun kids and I really do enjoy listening to their stories.  I think that they like to talk to me because I actually listen to them and remember their names and stories.  Also, I’m pretty wacky so they think I’m cool.  I enjoy their parents as well.  So many dedicated parents and good people.  They are funny and helpful and great to have in my life!  Good friends are hard to find so these are all important to me.

I’m hoping that you have some good people and good opportunities in your life.  That whole thing about self challenge and continuous learning always leads to excellent life adventures, usually with coolio people!
