pondering summer and randomness

I have had a pretty good summer despite all my whining about transitions being hard.  I have been enjoying SO many different things and people that it has been amazing.  It has turned SUPER hot – like yesterday it was 100* with a heat index of 120*!  Weird, I went on a pretty tough (for me) bike ride through the forest and while it was hot it wasn’t unbearable.  Guess I’m getting inured to the heat, this is good.

I was randomly googling to find a race Shelley mentioned and found a blog in which this woman named Sam discusses her training techniques.  I was thinking about signing up for the  Wakarusa Off-Road in September.  This is their promo info…  TOTAL MILES: 27.7 MILES (OF PURE OFF-ROAD FUN)! Total Miles Running: 6.3 Total Miles Biking: 17.2 Total Miles Paddling: 4.2   All this right in Lawrence on the River Trails and the River itself!  WOW!   Seems cool and my partner Shelley has done it and survived and is planning to do it again.   Anyway, this woman Sam’s blog scared me because she is a machine!  However, she mentioned that she is under 30 years old so this could explain the fact that she has a massively complicated training plan that involves timed intervals and heart rate monitors!  Yikes, I’m just busting out some runs and bikes when I can fit it in pretty willy nilly.  Certainly NO complicated math on how to calculate mile time from timed intervals…. Oh never mind!  See, random ponders!  I might sign up after I do this Adventure Race – we will see how that turns out.  If I do sign up I will have to search out this Sam woman (probably in the winners circle – if they wait for the slow people to finish before they do a winners circle) and bow down to her!  7 minute miles for 7 miles HA!  Who is up for a 13 minute mile??

I am also pondering the need to schedule some sit down time for project finishing.  Filling the calendar is never a problem for me.  I have been pondering that I really am not a fan of doing nothing for long.  I enjoy down time, really.  Reading, TV, movies, chatting with friends and family to me this is down time.  I really enjoy getting out and doing stuff.  There is so much wonder in the world.  I like to see it and touch it and experience it at least a little!  I guess as long as what you are doing is supporting you in feeling good, content, happy, useful, or all those other positive words that we want to be or feel then it is good.  It will feel good to wrap up all the 4H projects we have been working on all year long.  I also enjoy doing the finish work with Marek as long as we aren’t rushed which is a point in favor of getting them on the calendar. I guess we will do that TODAY!

On that note, I am headed to Lawrence today to visit the doctor for an allergy cure.  It is hard to breathe through my nose lately which is particularly poopy when trying to run.  I hope he has a good cure!  We will also do some boot window shopping for Marek.  He is interested in more horse riding and we can’t afford a horse or the fencing to keep one enclosed so we will look at boots!

I hope you find something interesting, invigorating, exciting, motivating or FUN to do today!  I am looking forward to a day with my boy, I love hanging out with him.  Have a great one!!
