#166 The Fourth of July

DSC_0051

I hope that you had a GREAT Fourth of July!!  Although I am not super thrilled with blowing things up, my loved ones love to blow things up.  Since I love them, I love it when they blow things up.  The photo of Marek in the last post is him holding a roman candle in his hand.  ACK!  I was appalled!  He and Marcus are very safe and attentive though so it’s all good.  He loves blowing things up and was entertaining a fantasy of being a pyro-technician some day.

DSC_0002 We had a great visit from Marvin and Gretchen for the weekend.  We were worried that they wouldn’t make it.  Gretchen has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and a variety of intensive arthritis issues as well as neuropathy.  Marvin has some arthritis and was recently diagnosed with polymyalgia… or something which has massive pain occurring randomly.  He has been unable to drive until the most recent change in medication.  I am thankful that they were able to make the trip.  They live about 9 hours away and we don’t get to see them as often as I’d like.  Marcus is close to them and needs their support as much as they need his.  They are going to celebrate their 55th Wedding Anniversary next week.  They are amazing.  We watched some old movies while they were here – great memories and a history lesson all at the same time.  Pretty interesting to see so many old memories from Marvin’s childhood up through their wedding and life with young children.

It was nice to have my Mom come out as well.  We enjoyed a nice evening of chatting and catching up with one another followed by the Fireworks display in McLouth.  Marcus sang the National Anthem and then the city firefighters shot off LOTS of fireworks.  It was a good display and a lovely ending to the evening.

In addition to this time with family, I would add that I am thankful that I live in America.  I sincerely appreciate the freedoms that I have as well as the wonderful opportunities that we have each day.  So many children and people live on so little.  We are truly blessed in our country and often many of us take it for granted.  It has been a long and difficult journey to this moment in our country’s history.  I am thankful for all who have committed their lives to working for our country and the freedoms that we celebrate.  THANKS!

I hope all of you have had some good times with family and friends.  Continue to enjoy your families and the wonderful blessings and opportunities that we all enjoy in our lives!!
