I have been pondering the speed of life. It seems pretty fast right now. It’s great though. I am having SO much fun! There are points in every day that aren’t really that fun or even particularly awesome however, most of the time I’m loving it!
I am enjoying outside, family, friends, exercise, learning, reading, googling random info, music. I know that there may come a time when life is slower but right now I am just going to have to relish the speed and diversity of each day. My garden is pretty shaggy, Garden Girl is slacking off massively this summer. Oh, well. I am getting tomatoes and cucumbers but all of my squash died due to stupid squash vine borers. Bleh! On the other hand, my outdoor adventure and fitness has been really awesome and enjoyable!
It has been SO hot. I mean REALLY hot. I am becoming fairly acclimated to the heat which is sort of weird. It has been a long hot summer the hottest since 1984 here in Kansas. I don’t mind being hot but I would prefer to be doing something when I sweat instead of just sitting calmly and simmering in my own pool of juice. Ugh. Even the weeds are dying in the garden.
My most vivid memory of summer heat is from my childhood. I’m not sure but I think it was the summer after 6th or 7th grade when myself and two girlfriends went to Wilderness 4H Camp. It was at least 100* each day and several days it was 110* or above. Our counselor had third degree burns from sunburn. She had been at camp for weeks. Strangely, I think her name was Dodie. Anyway, each day we packed up camp and hiked to a new spot to set up. We filled the days with various camp activities with a heavy emphasis on lake time. We would sit on a giant inner tube and chant the Queen songs! One night we were supposed to cook spaghetti noodles for dinner in a coffee can on the fire. We put the noodles in before the water boiled and ended up making some hot pasty soup for dinner! It is the first time I ever peeled in my life. Hot summer memories! Do you have these?
I think that there is some theme for each summer. One thing or activity that stands out each summer. This summer is the summer of the Adventure Race for me. Do you have a summer theme? I can remember themes from the last several summers.
