Facebook is such a strange and good thing though! So many friends from home started my day with love and greetings I felt thankful and grateful to be so blessed! Then I went to the conference. Yep.
It was actually super motivational and inspiring. I got many new ideas and resources. I will be sharing some in the future. I heard several gifted speakers who are dedicated to improving our world.

Everything wrapped up and I headed up to my room to relax and change for a night out with my friend Vinh. He drove an hour into the city to pick me up!

He also took me to an area I really wanted to visit! Haight Ashbury! It is the historic party, run away haven, music, art hippie area of the city. We wandered a bit and talked catching up on life. Cool art gallery-all things interesting!

We ate at a "sausage shop" where I had a homemade wild boar sausage on a crusty roll with mustard! Delicious! Then we went next door to a bar with a gazillion beer choices. Since it was the last Friday of the month, close to Halloween and we were in the Haight, there were many sights to see.

We drank several beers an talked, eventually ending up joined by two guys from Ireland. They were totally entraining! Although, to his credit, Vinh is pretty freaking entertaining all by himself! We had a great time analyzing society. Sadly, we had such fun that we stayed out pretty late. I hit the bed around 2am. :-)
Is there more to this great birthday? Why yes! I was reawakened at around 2:30am by a LOUD alarm! I leapt from the bed, nearly killing myself as I untangled from the covers and began trying to turn it off! Several confused minutes of pushing, wacking and smacking the I-home led me to believe that it was the TV. Nope. Maybe the TV in the bathroom mirror? Nope! Maybe covering the speaker with my hands (on the ceiling)? Nope! Arch! Oh, wait, there is a voice in the noise... It says, "evacuate the hotel by te stairwell"! What the hell?! Why me? I figured out how to make the phone work - several bumbling tries were necessary! When I reached the desk to mention the horrible noise in my room, the nice lady said, "Evacuate the hotel!". Ooooohhhhh! So. 17th floor. I finally made it to the hall with pants, hoodie and my purse only to find 10 more slackers hanging out. I told them that they really meant for us to evacuate. Blank stares of amazement as they finally realized our plight. Happily, it was at that moment that the guy with the cell phone glued to his ear determined that we had dithered around long enough that it was all clear! Whew! Back to bed! The entire hotel, minus us, evacuated into the street! I kinda wish I hadn't been such a nimrod so I could have seen this amazing sight! Oh, well. Good thing the smoke was next door to the hotel and there was no real danger!
Stay tuned for the last installments of this adventure! Hope your day brings joy and ridiculous excitement!
