Adventure!

Well, I had every intention of tapping into the handy laptop using free hotel wireless this week. Sadly, no such thing as free here! I am having a good adventure so far. I miss my family and friends - my daily routine, but I am having fun and learning/doing/experiencing new things!

My trip here was, as mentioned, pretty tough. Arriving 5 hours later than expected was disappointing. However, day two was good! I headed to my training, How to evaluate State School of Character applications. Pretty cool and totally applicable to our Kansas grant. Then, dismissed at 3:30, I wandered around!

First, I visited some of the local artist/vendor's on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. Got a gift for Marcus and a ring for myself. Then I headed down to the world series, at ATT Park where

the San Francisco Giants were kicking off their first game against the Texas Rangers.

That was very exciting. To be in a crowd of good spirited people suffering from an overabundance of comradery. People watching is a great pastime.

From there a long walk in the wrong direction took me through the Tenderloin. Not the best neighborhood but interesting. It was a little anxiety producing at times. A glance into the lives of people living in what appeared to be poverty, crime, alcohol and drugs. I walked with purpose until I got back on track making it to dinner with the Character Education peeps. It was delicious - tomato salad, bean soup and crunchy bread. The Giants won the first game in the World series while we relaxed at dinner. The city is alive with excitement!
