Bible ponders…

So, today I received a lovely email from a friend with this bible verse.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  This is the NIV version and the New King James version is pretty awesome also, “ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
I love this verse.  Both versions mean the same thing, and are translated from the original.  But I must admit, I really like the New King James version for a few reasons.  I really like the idea of “thoughts I think TOWARD you”.  How powerful are thoughts?  Our own thoughts shape our self esteem, our self image, our outlook on life.  How powerful must God’s thoughts be?  God’s thoughts are powerful enough to shape our life plan!  I also like the phrase, “a hope”.  So often we feel stuck in our mundane, busy lives.  We get too busy, too rushed and frustrated with all the demands upon us.  I like this phrase because God says he will give us “a” hope.  Just one, one is enough!  Not overwhelming, just what we need!
I think that it is true that we each have a path set for us – a plan.  I know that I have many interests and many skills but I am truly best suited for certain things, there is a theme.  There must be a plan in order for there to be a theme.   We are each given gifts, talents, skills and a drive to use them by God so that we can follow the path that He has set for us.  When we try to deviate from this plan with our stubbornness or denial it usually goes wrong.  I also think that sometimes we wish that the path was broader, more shiny or more obvious.  Even more rewarding – financially or socially.  But, truth be told, each of us has a place, a path, a plan designed for us and each of these is important!  Each place is part of a larger picture.  Each of us makes a difference within our world.  I believe that I am usually on the path, following the plans that God has set for me.  I feel that what I am doing is “right” for me.  I am grateful that I have the opportunity to have the family I have, the job that I have and the daily roles and challenges that He sets before me.  I am challenged, invigorated, interested and excited about the path that I am on.  It is something for which I am grateful daily!!  A path for me, for you… DSCF0003
