Yesterday I spent the day with Marek. We had a great day! Since Marek has type one diabetes, he has to visit Children's Mercy every three or four months. We have decided to make the best of a bad deal and turn hospital visits into free days. Sometimes Marcus is able to come with us and sometimes he can't - either way it is always a good day!
Our doctor only sees patients on Mondays so we take what we can get. Yesterday we had a 10am appointment. This is about perfect for a free day - we have to leave at about 8:30 to get there by 9:45 so obviously we are justified in no morning classes! Then, our appointment takes a solid hour every time. Sometimes with labs it's a couple of hours. Yesterday we were done about 11:20. Also perfect in justification land! Gotta eat lunch!
We headed to the Ernie Miller Nature Center in Olathe. There we checked out some wildlife and ate our delicious BLT sandwhiches in the sun. We talked and decided that instead of walking we would see a movie. So we headed to the theater to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians: the lightening theif. It isn't showing closer to home so we voted we should watch it when we had the chance. It was great!
Meanwhile, we had plenty of time to talk and spend time. He is such a good boy. Kind and considerate. Funny, full of opinions and ideas. We ran a few errands after the movie. He cracks me up.
Diabetes is a total bummer but our trips to the hospital provide us with a gift! He gave me a hug and kiss and said, "thanks for a great day mom, I had fun." Love my son.
