What's your one thing?

Sorry, I've had a lot of time to muse and ponder but not as much time to write! So, I've been thinking of the various campaigns to promote green living - "What's your one thing?". I hear it on the radio and Nickolodeon. My wonderment is that we only hope for one thing. Really, one? Let's each do at least a couple! So, here is my motivational inspirational list of "more than one thing"!

1. We recycle paper, magazines, plastic, glass, metal, aluminum and batteries. (This counts as 7 if you're doing one thing!) Also, we live in the wilderness so there is no pick up for recycling - we deliver our recycling!
2. I compost kitchen scraps for the garden.
3. We use the dishwasher (yep, this is a water saver!)
4. We wash everything in cold water (not myself though!). Still gets clean!
5. I am working to use more 'green' homemade cleaning supplies. (more on this later)
6. I garden organically - no pesticides!
7. I shop locally as much as possible and when I go to 'town' one of the big towns that is, all three about 40 miles away, I ALWAYS have multiple tasks to accomplish.
8. I buy food/produce grown locally as much as possible. Not such a major sacrifice as it is fresher and better.
9. I garden with native plants and have multiple gardens designed to attract butterflies and other wildlife.
10. I don't use plastic bottles for drinking water.
11. We use re-useable grocery bags not plastic or paper. I also try to avoid plastic when shopping for other non-grocery stuff.
12. We turn the lights out when we leave a room. (really, the whole family is amazingly good at this)

Well, these are the things we do that I can think of off hand. There is more to be done. I can make a list at least this long of behaviors I need to replace. I guess the point is, just do it! It's easier than one might think!
