My tips for pushing through the season? Positive thoughts, exercise, healthy food, good times with friends and staying busy! I sincerely believe that your outlook makes a huge difference. Research supports this belief. People who look for the good feel good. Finding a way to stay positive sometimes takes some doing. But it's worth it! Focus on the things that are going right and let as much as possible of the negative slip away! Sometimes it requires blinders, sticking your fingers in your ears and humming loudly or just straight up leaving a room. Positive thoughts make you smile, smiles spread and then you have created a positive environment in which to focus on positive stuff! Yay! Simple yet effective!
The exercise and healthy food thing is just SO much more important for me in the winter. In the summer I am outside wogging, working in the garden, playing, swimming, hiking - bottom line, moving! Winter not so much! It's cold, gray, foggy, snowy or muddy. Bleh! No garden and hard to wog! Soil have been forcing myself to stay motivated about exercise. Get creative! Groups of friends walking inside or out if possible or doing a healthy challenge makes it more fun. Join the gym for three months or commit to working out with a group. This is hard but worth it because exercise creates energy and positive energy at that!
Fun times and a healthy level of busy! This helps pass the time in a positive way. The trick is to schedule some low cost, low impact conversational times with family and friends. It isn't a great time to drive around but if you plan carefully you can fit in a weekly fun time with your peeps. I think it is challenging to do this because our inclination is to stay home with a blanket, hot cocoa and comfort food. However, schedule some fun and some responsibilities into your winter and suddenly, after dinner with friends, a card party, and getting together for coffee we will all find ourselves in the middle of March! Yay! I can hardly wait! Green!
