The Redneck Road Killers take to the road for the Brew to Brew !

The beginning.  We actually had a team of 8 but the two guys who ran the last 3 legs joined us later.  I’m so glad Shelley organized this team and encouraged me (and Marek) to participate.  It was fun and challenging.  There were 4000 people running which in and of itself is amazing.  The event raises money for Cystic Fibrosis.  I think this was the 18th annual event.  The race goes from the Boulevard Brewing Company in KC, MO to the Free State Brewing Company, covering the 44.4 miles.  The solo runners start running at 6am and after that there is a batch of runners leaving every 30 minutes until 10:30am when the “elite” runners take off.  It was fairly amazing to see SOOO many people and their ridiculous costumes.  We, The Redneck Road Killers, are not an elite team yet!  Although we would be ready to … no, we won’t be an “elite” team ever!  Lol, we will, however, run again!

Marek was an awesome teammate.  He and Scott (Shelley’s son) designed and mostly rendered the shirts.  Scott designed the road kill coyote and Marek the skull and racing flags.  As we were standing around getting ready for our start time, Jennifer said, “Too bad we didn’t get some awesome fake tattoos!”  I suggested that Marek could draw us some tattoos if only he had a sharpie.  He did!  I copied his design onto his arm but he wasn’t impressed with my efforts!  However, we all thought his effort was great!  Plus, what biceps!

I developed some sock envy throughout the day!  These were awesome.  There were so many bright and crazy knee socks, I think I need some!

DSCF4171These are the other “girls” on the team.  They are my awesome    “running”  buddies!  We finished the race in 7 hours and 24 minutes but with our             “handicap”  due to our apparently advanced ages we finished in 6 hours and 50 minutes!  Overall, we did pretty good.  I think that I had my personal best as far as the time and distance I covered.  I ran 4.8miles.  Whew!  It was strangely hot, 90* on April 1st.  Strangely, it was apparently 90* last year also!

It was a fun day because we got to hang out all day.  There were so many different costumes and funny names throughout the day.  We saw pirates, “Thong Distance Runners”, people in kilts, Propeller Heads, and “Tight Butts and Sweaty Nuts”!  Many people chose to drink all day long.  I don’t know how anyone can really drink much and run.  Even after I ran I really needed to rehydrate with water!  I theorize that we are either not in as good shape or possibly just not as foolish!  DSCF4190

After the finish, we did go to Buffalo Bob’s for Beer and BBQ!  It was a good ending to a long day!   I hope you are finding some slightly crazy but healthy things to do in your free time!
