, 156, 157, 158 all in a row!
June 24th, 2011 Friday night of Old Settler’s Reunion. Woohoo! It is party in the wilderness weekend. Annually, Oskaloosa hosts a carnival with a wide variety of community events and old fashioned games. It actually starts on Thursday but Marek had a baseball game so our debut was Friday evening. I dropped Marek at 6pm with $20 to buy a wristband for unlimited rides. I then went for a lovely trail wog on the military trail. I rejoined the boy around 9pm and found that he had spent the evening rotating between friends or groups of friends while riding. The rides ended at 10 but the first ever youth dance went until 11. While a variety of youth stopped in the big crowd was this group of soon to be seventh graders. They did some dancing and goofing around. At the end I convinced them to pose for this party pic. Too funny really. They are a good group of kids and took joy in the evening. I gave a few piggy back rides and danced in embarassing ways a couple of times. Important not to steal the thunder though so I stayed low keyed! Lol, as much as I could anyway!
June 25th, 2011 Saturday brought another visit to Old Settler’s. It was parade night and the culmination of the adult egg toss. This is a friend who was competing in the egg toss. I love the fact that he has his tongue sticking out! He is a good kid and super sweet. He and his little brother successfully caught the egg up to about 100 yards apart. Pretty entertaining. The three winning teams were SUPER far away from each other.
June 26th, 2011 Sunday afternoon brought a canoe trip with my Adventure Race partner. We felt pretty good and I enjoyed getting to know her better. I learned a lot about the race and how it works which was good. I have a better idea about what is expected. This is pretty handy since the big gig is in 28 days! Canoeing was awesome. I thought it was great exercise but I also realized how easy and fun it is to take the canoe out. I am hoping to do so more frequently to enjoy the time with my peeps and to maybe take some photos. We saw some Great Blue Herons, my favorite bird. They are super cool. I didn’t take the camera or my phone on the canoe this trip – focus on the first effort. On the way home, I enjoyed the view across the field. Kansas sunsets can’t be beat!
June 27th, 2011 Monday brought a busy day of moving at work. Ugh, I am SO done with that! Tomorrow brings some more painting. Yay! After work I took a trail wog with a friend and ended up at Board Meeting. After that, I came home and walked the dogs. I hadn’t taken a picture yet so I whipped out my handy HTC Droid and snapped this flower photo. Kind of handy that it was dark, the garden is full of weeds! However, this native flower (don’t know the name) is pretty and interesting in the dark or the sunshine!
I am hoping to get to some story telling or ponders here soon but quite seriously I am not finding the time. On the other hand, I’m enjoying life. My increasing exercise, time with my peeps and summer activities with Marek. We will see how this settles out. Each summer is different, full of different schedules and activities. There are too many great things to do; people to see things to do! Hope you are finding fun and enjoyment in your summer days!
