Christmas was lovely. I have so very much to be thankful for everyday. Having the opportunity to relax and spend time with my family is wonderful.
It is hard not to spend some time comparing and contrasting our version of Christmas with others. Some have so little and some have so much. I think we are in the middle but when I hear or see evidence of either extreme I wonder where we really fall.
I feel like we emphasize giving because we care and love each other. We also spend time at church and emphasize the real meaning of Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season and all the gifts and blessings we have originate there I hope and pray that people all around the world will have what they need to live healthy and safe lives.
I am pretty excited about my own presents! I got a beautiful new coat; it's a grape pea coat. Sounds crazy, but it's cute. I haven't had a nice coat chosen by me or for me for years. I've been wearing a down vest (which I do love but it's sometimes not enough) or a hand-me-down leather jacket for ages. It feels fancy to have a coat just for me! Marcus chose well. My friend Julie gifted me some awesome purple gloves which match the new coat as well, it's like an intentional stylish ensemble!
I am also excited to have a new bike rack for my jeep! I have wanted a bike rack for years. Living out here on gravel in the wilderness actually makes bike riding a bit hard. You can't just roll out to pavement. I can ride on gravel but it's pretty dangerous on our road and not at all desirable. Now, I will be able to ride wherever I want with ease! No more smashing the bikes into the vehicle - I say bikes because generally Marek is with me. The jeep actually only holds his bike, the van smashed both in but what a hassle. This rack will hold four bikes so we can go with friends. Yay! I can't wait for a good bike day!
I am also thankful for my other gifts. My family is generous. I am excited to be in on sharing a few family gifts. We have already played some Rock Band. We aren't a huge video gaming family We limit Marek's screen time and he self limits by choosing other activities. But you gotta game some times! He is happy with a Play Station 2 platform and now, with Rock Band, we can family game. It has already been fun.
One of the things I enjoy most about this season of home time is playing games together. Yesterday we played scrabble and Catch Phrase with my Mom. Fun times! Today we will teach Marek how to play backgammon, don't know how we have overlooked this in the past! We will also bust out the cards and play some hearts and Dutch Blitz. A full day of old school gaming I guess.
Meanwhile, the boys sleep on and my legs are falling asleep from my Java. Also, I'm out of coffee and that's never good! I hope you enjoy your day today, enjoy your family time! What will you do together?
