A Good Weekend…

We had the opportunity to visit my Dad this past weekend.  We are always running from activity to action to something or other and it was amazing that we had nothing planned in advance for the weekend.  Marek missed seeing Dad and Mertie at Thanksgiving and we were in Chicago for Christmas so other than a quick lunch we hadn’t spent any significant time.  We enjoyed to company and the time to relax for the entire weekend.  The weather was pretty great on Saturday so we took a long walk on the trails near their house.  Mertie and I walked fast!

Saturday late afternoon we headed to what turned out to be a really cool little place.  www.copperrundistillery.com

Copper Run Distillery

It is a tiny distillery with a small bar and live music.  Favorite event of the weekend, for sure!  Although I don’t drink whiskey or moonshine, the little tour of the distillery in the basement was totally interesting.  The bar part was awesome.  It had a great front porch and a back deck (too chilly for significant hanging out this weekend) and the interior was pretty neat.  There was an exhibition of photographs displayed on the walls and some interesting décor.  The band was pretty good, a folk/bluegrass duet.

Mertie and Dad said that the band they had seen the last time was better.  It was the perfect set up and Marcus and I enjoyed talking about our long time dream of owning/running a bar with good music and comfy home feeling.  Who knows if we ever will do this but it is fun to chew on it sometimes.  We’d skip the moonshine and feature home brews.  Tiny little menu and great music, maybe a trivia night.  I loved the hours of Copper Run, 10am – 7pm.  Nice!  They actually sell quite a bit of booze, don’t know what we would do opening that early but I’d love the bands from 3-7!  Oh, to dream!

Sunday we enjoyed Mertie’s great brunch with some amazing scones, then hit the trail again.  We chillaxed for a bit then headed home.  We enjoyed a stop at an antique mall.  It is always fun to poke around in places like that.  That is an activity that the three of us equally enjoy.

It was a good and relaxing weekend.  I am always glad to spend time with both of my parents.  Dad and Mertie live a bit too far away for easy visits but happily close enough to make it occasionally.  It is also nice because when we do visit we seem to relax and rejuvenate.  I’m hoping that you were able to enjoy the weekend and find some fun.  Dream on!
