Happiness…

I am feeling pretty great these days.  The weather has changed and the air is soft.  It has been awhile since I have spoken with you.  It seems like time has been flowing past really quickly these last weeks.

We had a great anniversary celebration and have since recovered to move on with our daily lives.  Marek has had his first football game, gotten braces and is soon to have a baseball tournament with the River Bandits.  Oh, and Jazz Band starts tomorrow!  Life is good in eighth grade!

I am starting to settle into my new job.  I am enjoying it quite a bit.  It is interesting and each day is different.  I am working hard to help the kids who are in need and I am finding it challenging thus far.  I am also filling my schedule – that’s the only possible down side.  Sometimes it feels a little slow… however, I think that that is ok.  I am such an action person it is not a bad thing to slow down, contemplate and revel in the low stress.  There is no doubt that the stress level will go up as the year continues so I will enjoy it while I can.  It seems like everyone is pleased with what I am doing and that is a good feeling.  I am totally autonomous which is awesome as well.

I was able to participate in the Wakarusa Off Road Challenge this past Saturday.  It was pretty awesome.  I felt great for the majority of the event but really tanked for the last four miles.  I really try not to whine but the damn injury thing is just continuing to snowball and to hurt.  Boo!!  It was a fun event and I feel proud that I finished (my first goal) and proud that I was pretty close to finishing in 4 hours (my second goal) – 4 hours 5 minutes was our official time!  I really enjoyed most of the race.  Sandra is a machine and smart and funny so that was good.  I really hope that I can get the left leg healed up so that I can consider doing this again next year.  If it hadn’t hurt for the last four miles it would have been super awesome.  Even with the pain it was still pretty cool!

After the first two mile jog we hopped on the bikes for 13 miles or so… that was my favorite part!  28.7 miles later…. Finish line!  My legs were asleep! wor finish 2

Overall it was a good time.  I feel pretty fit and strong and motivated.  Strangely, I stretched out the pain and felt pretty good for the rest of the day Saturday.  We went out to celebrate my sweet friend Julie’s birthday in the evening.  I developed fairly painful shin splints by Sunday evening.  Ouch!  How weird.  I guess I didn’t stretch enough.

Meanwhile, I have been lazy about organizing all of my volunteer duties and need to get it going on this evening.  We have a 4H parents meeting next week and I need to be organized so that I can effectively recruit volunteers!

It’s also time for a road trip!  Marcus and I are going to hop on the bikes (motorcycles) and leisurely ride to Columbia, Missouri.  We will get to see the Old 97’s!  Woohoo!!  We will meet some great friends there to enjoy the evening.  Then we will head home Thursday afternoon arriving home just in time for some Jr. High Football!  Oh boy!  Hope you have some things to enjoy this week.  If you don’t have big plans then I hope you have plans to relax and enjoy the weather and some time to refresh!
