I am still struggling with the knee injury, it has been identified as an injury to my iliotibial band. Although I am moving fairly well, after stepping up the speed last week I am very stiff. I am icing and elevating but somewhat dejected for the moment. I am hoping to schedule my Spa Day soon and hoping that the sports massage will resolve some of the issue. Ultimately, I am sure that it will simply take time. Meanwhile, I am wogging in a fashion that is very like hiking! It’s all good. I am also contemplating a few motivators for continued entertainment… I have not really competed in many events in the past but I have found the few that I have done to be motivating and positive. I don’t know if I will get to even half of these but it’s good to dream!
March 4th – I’m hoping to take a Navigation Class to learn and practice UTM plotting. This is the Universal Transverse Mercator System… best choice for an understandable explanation is most likely UTM on Wikipedia. I learn best in a hands on practice setting so this workshop style class is appealing to me. Hopefully, Shelley and Sandra will be able to do this class. The cool thing is that we could attend the class for free if we sign up and pay for the Thumper Adventure Race on March 10th. If the weather holds we are considering this plan. I would love to be part of a three person team for this 3-5 hour race involving trekking, UTM plotting, canoeing, and biking.
April 1st – Shelley is organizing a team for the Brew to Brew a 44 mile relay race for cystic fibrosis that goes from the Boulevard Brewing company in KC to Lawrence Free State Brewing. It would be fun and a very social race. I hope it comes together.
May 5th, is the Smithville 8-Hour . Looks fun and, as you know, I love the whole concept of adventure racing so I am eager to do another one. If that doesn’t work out then I might do either the 5K or a half trail marathon on May 12th. I won’t be able to do both events so it would be one or the other depending on our schedules. The 5K or half trail event would be close to home. It’s the Rock On, Lake Perry! race, the first in a series of three trail races all offering at least three different lengths. My first choice would be the Smithville Adventure Race but a close to home trail event would be better than nothing especially if I was up for the 13.1 miles!
June 22nd – is the second in the Lake Perry trail series, Rock the Night, a multi length opportunity to run through the woods in the dark! It offers a 5K and half option. There is also a 50K option but I am NOT doing that! Running through the night seems crazy but doable. A friend did it last year and really enjoyed it. We will see!
July 22nd – The Sunflower State Games Adventure Race!! Yes, we will have to defend our title. This year it will be at Milford Reservoir instead of close to home. Bummer! However, the Navigation class and Thumper Race are at Milford as well so it it works out that we race in March it will give us some experience on the course before this event. Can’t wait to do another Adventure Race!! SSG Adventure Race
This sure seems like a big list but a girl can dream, right! To do all of these would be amazing!! It would also motivate me to get my but out there and hit the trail. I feel good about setting goals and mapping it out. The biggest challenge will be fitting all of this into our summer schedule. We will see what happens!
Hope you are setting some goals for health and wellness. They are tough to do but worth it for yourself. My list is inordinately long but I am motivated. Good to ponder!
Ponder some movement and action at your house while the pondering is good!!
