347 January 5th, 2011 It was a gorgeous day out, 66* was the high! Amazing! I had a Board of Ed meeting so I indulged in a short walk with the dogs.
348 January 6th, 2011 Another great day, I enjoyed a long hike with the peeps from JDLA today. It was gorgeous and almost 60* degrees. We hiked about 5 miles and it was awesome! I love Winged Sumac, it’s native to Kansas and strangely pretty. The burnt orangey red is a good color. The little berries contain Vitamin C and are a little snack that is fun to share with the kids.
349 January 7th, 2011 Took a great hike AGAIN today! My friend Shelley and I hiked with our boys (only one of hers) on the Old Military Trail. Again it was fairly warm and a perfect day for a hike. We originally thought we would be able to go from one trail head to the next but instead of the 6 miles I thought it was it turned out to be 8 which we attempted but with our speed traveling with the boys we thought we would run out of time before dark. SO.. we cut it short and only walked 5.5 miles! pretty good for the first hike of the year with the boys. I took several pictures but this picture of Scott is the best. After about 4.5 miles on the trail we used the map to hike out to the road and then return to our car… which was parked at The Grainery! Yay! BBQ and Beer! Can’t beat an afternoon in the woods with friends topped off with good food and beverages.
Hope you are finding the time to enjoy this amazing weather and some friends and family. It is a great time to get moving if you live in Northeast Kansas. Mild weather can’t last forever but it’s awesome now. My knee isn’t full speed but it is feeling pretty good. No running but endless hiking seems to be working! Get out! Enjoy life and get moving!
