I have witnessed my son learn his first serious procrastination lesson this evening. He was supposed to read a book and write a book report this quarter. He started the book on Monday and, needless to say, is not yet done with it! He waited WAY too long to get started! I didn’t know about this assignment in time to nag, cajole, encourage and push earlier. We will see how this turns out. He finally went to bed after falling asleep while reading maybe twice. Poor thing, he had three knowledge bowl meets this week and one track practice as well as the usual school day. While procrastination is easy, it would always be easier to make a plan and partialize the work! Knowing this, I admit that I in fact still suffer from procrastination. In addition, I am sometimes overcommitted and easily distracted. Sadly, Marek has totally inherited these traits. It will be interesting to see how they develop through the rest of his teen years. There is still hope! We are going to start reading a book for fourth quarter next week!!
In other news, I got to be the moderator for the knowledge bowl meet today. It was fun!! I enjoyed reading and attending to the process of the meet. The kids did well. We have one more meet and it is the regional final. Yay!
Tomorrow after work, Shelley and I will pack it up and head out to Milford Lake to get our Adventure Race map and lounge in our awesome cabin before the race. I really hope that having unrushed time will allow us to make a good plan. We are always trying to improve our technique and skill at orienteering. In adventure racing, skill at navigation can balance out lack of speed. This would be an advantage we need! I rode the bike through the woods today and … oh. my. Super slush, pretty slick and there is still snow on a good part of the trail. It will be an amazing race!!
